User Variables

These types of variables are standard variables that are defined by the designer of the Interaction. They can be used and allocated at any stage during the Interaction workflow.

User variables are managed using the User Variables tab of the Variables Definition dialog. (To access the dialog, from the Edit menu, select Variables.)

Description/Notes

The name of the Interaction element. The name should be unique, so it can be used for referencing. The reference name appears only in Design view. It is not visible to users.

Enter the initial value of the Variable in this field.

Data Type

Select the relevant Variable type from the dropdown list:

Number

Currency

Date (The initial value must be set in U.S. date format, e.g., 11/24/2013.)

Boolean

Text (If encryption of the information is required, select the Secure Value checkbox.)

Collection (For details about this data type, refer to Working with Collections.)

Custom variable type (For details about this data type, refer to Defining Custom Variables.)

When defining a variable of the type Number, Currency, Date, or Text (or a collection of one of these simple types), the Format button is enabled. The Format feature allows you to select the required formatting options, so that the output of the variable will be displayed to the end user in the proper format (e.g., with the correct currency symbol). For more information about using formatting, refer to Working with Data Type Formatting.
